Topic:   Process Excellence (J&J Six Sigma Program)

This presentation will provide a brief overview of Process Excellence (J&J Six Sigma Program) at GBSC and introduce a tool to assist efforts in outsource Quality Functions.
The Process Excellence discussion will introduce the audience to Process Excellence within GBSC. Process Excellence uses three main methodologies, one of those being six-sigma. We will also review the belt certification process as part of the discussion. The discussion will also highlight the benefits of Process Excellence to GBSC.
The remainder of the presentation will focus upon the application of a six-sigma tool, SIPOC to assist in potentially outsourcing a quality function. SIPOC (Supplier, Inputs, Process, Outputs, and Customers) assists the user in defining and managing the scope of the effort. The discussion will use an example to assist the audience in understanding the application of the SIPOC tool.

Speaker: Ron Hinkel

Ron Hinkel is the Director, Quality Metrics and Management at GBSC (Global Biologics Supply Chain) a fully owned subsidiary of J&J. He has 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry with an emphasis on aseptic processing, biological manufacturing and automation systems. Current responsibilities include the establishment and maintenance of a Quality Management program serving the six bulk facilities and contractors for GBSC. The Quality Management program focuses on establishing and maintaining measures of overall quality performance based on six sigma principles. Previously he has held validation positions with J&J (Pharmaceutical Research Institute), Organon (Pharma Division) and Smith-Kline Beecham.
He brings a wealth of practical hands on experience in applying six sigma principles to the quality environment within the biopharmaceutical industry. Current projects include a six-sigma black belt certification project focusing on batch management using SAP. Background education consists of a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University.
