  • Dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation)
  • Graphic analysis (Histograms, Pareto analysis)
  • Basic Process Control
  • How to chart variable data (e.g. weight, time, etc.) and attribute data (e.g. correct/incorrect, defective/OK, etc.)

Who are the instructors?

Mr. Dakshina (Dak) Murthy, P.E.
Director of Quality at NJ Transit.

He obtained his Baccalaureate degree and Masters degree in Engineering.   Professional Engineer, Licensed and certified by the State of New Jersey. Senior member of Quality, ISO -9000 Lead Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Engineer and certified Quality Manager ,Quality NJ Governor’s award examiner for 2002-2004, ASQ TEAM’s examiner for 2003-2005.  Chairperson for NY-NJ Metropolitan American Society for Quality.

Presented a paper on “ Improving Reliability for Transit equipment” during the 57th Annual Quality Congress held in Kansas City, sponsored by ASQ, and won the acclaim as “ Speaker Extraordinaire”.

Presented several articles/ papers on ASQ Metro section, Newsletter and September conference.

Dak Murthy

Dr. William (Bill) Latzko, CQE
President of Latzko Associates

Bill Latzko is president of Latzko Associates, a Management Consulting Organization specializing in quality. He teaches Operations Management at Fordham University and Quality Control and Management at Columbia University.

A Fellow of the American Society for Quality as well as a Certified Quality Engineer, Bill has held the chair of ASQ Divisions, Committees, and the NY/NJ Metropolitan Section. He is also a member of the American Statistical Association. He received the W. Edwards Deming Medal and the Ellis R. Ott Award.

He is the author of several books and over 50 articles on quality. His most recent book, with David Saunders is Four Days with Dr. Deming: a Strategy for Modern Methods of Management.

Directions to MMC (NJ Transit Meadowlands Maintenance Complex)

From Route 280 & Points West

From all points East and west with access to Route 280, take Exit 17A follow the road approximately 1 mile, past Post Office complex traffic light and Freedom drive traffic light.  Make an immediate right turn into the complex (you will see a sign for NJ Transit Rail Operations Meadows Maintenance Complex Employee Parking lot).  Park in lot and take the elevated walkway into the building.

From the NJ Turnpike

From all points with access to the NJ Turnpike, travel the Turnpike to Exit 15W, follow signs for route 7 East to Jersey City.  Follow directions above in bold type.

From Hoboken/Jersey City and Points East

Travel to the Tonnele Ave. circle and follow signs for Route 7 West.

Travel on Route 7 West for about 1½ miles.  Come to a fork in road opposite the MMC.  Stay initially to left (route 508 west to Newark/Harrison).  Two hundred feet after taking left fork, make “U” turn onto route 7 East. Take Route 7 East back toward Jersey City.  Follow Route 7 East for about 200 feet and look for sign into Employees Parking Lot.  Follow direction as above in bold type
