AbstractIncreasingly, companies in numerous industries are outsourcing manufacturing. Previous research has shown that on average there is an increased quality risk associated with outsourced production relative to internal production. In this study, we evaluate the relative effectiveness of formal control mechanisms and relational mechanisms on mitigating the potential quality risk posed by contract manufacturers. |
Biography of Sean HandleyDr. Handley's teaching and research interests are in the areas of strategic sourcing, global supply management, and buyer/supplier relationships. His current research program is focused on how organizations effectively manage strategic outsourcing initiatives. Dr. Handley's research has been published or is under review at the Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, and Quality Management Journal. Dr. Handley obtained his PhD and MBA from The Ohio State University, and received his BS in Industrial Management from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to entering academics, he served in multiple technical and managerial capacities working for Honda’s logistics and supply chain operations. |
