All work is process. Supported by an effective system we can work to control and assure quality. We need already to be using these systems in our companies to benefit owners who want them used on their projects. Applying ISO 9001 to projects when the project team members have little or no experience of working systematically to fulfill requirements is problematic. Enlightened leaders realize this and require their process‐based management systems to be ready for use on projects.
Owners, project managers, designers and constructors use these systems to run their organizations so they are ready for use on projects. They are not used primarily to prequalify or win certificates. By focusing on what is absolutely required to run organizations effectively, these systems naturally conform to the internationally recognized standards for process‐based risk management systems ISO 9001:2008.
For owners of the products of design and construction projects, these systems have to operate at two levels; the corporate and project levels. Some owners are realizing that procurement strategy is necessary to obtain the benefits of these systems over many years and several projects. This session covers three important parts of this procurement strategy as follows:
We will examine how companies and projects have developed their leaders and their process‐based management systems to control and assure quality while eliminated sources of waste.
